    How the calculator works

Your reading speed times your daily reading time gives your pages per day. Multiply by the days left this year and divide by the length of a typical book, and you get a realistic number of books. Flip it around and you see how many pages a day your goal needs.

Small daily habits, big yearly numbers

Fifteen minutes before bed is about 10 pages for most readers, or around a dozen books a year. Add a chapter at lunch and you can double it. Consistency matters more than long weekend marathons.

    Tips to read more

Keep your next book where you can see it, read a few pages instead of scrolling, try audiobooks for walks and chores, and don't be afraid to stop a book you're not enjoying.

    Track your reading challenge

Our Book Tracker is a web app: search any book to add its cover and page count, set a yearly goal and watch your shelf fill up. No download, no account, no subscription.

    FAQ

    Good to know.

How many pages can I read in an hour?

Most adults read about 30–50 pages of a typical novel per hour, depending on the book and how closely they read. Lighter reads go faster, dense non-fiction slower.

How many books does the average person read in a year?

It varies a lot, but many readers who track their reading finish around 12–30 books a year. Ten pages a night is already roughly a dozen books.

    What's a good reading goal?

Pick one that feels fun, not stressful: one book a month (12) or two a month (24) are popular starting points. You can always raise it later.

    Do audiobooks count?

Of course. Listening to a book is reading it. Track the format if you like to see how you read.
